We couldn’t lead the fight for mental health without our volunteers. Cornwall Mind volunteers play a huge part in everything we do.

Volunteering can be a really rewarding and useful experience – and there’s probably more ways of doing it than you might think. From helping support our wellbeing groups, becoming a Trustee or helping organise our events. there are many ways you can give your time.

Here at Cornwall Mind we rely on our fantastic volunteers to help us deliver our services and support our day-to-day work.

We are very proud of the work that our volunteers do.

We offer a variety of roles and in return for your time and effort, we offer a supportive working environment, valuable work experience, involvement in social activities, the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge, access to training, supervision and out of pocket expenses.

 

Current volunteer opportunities

Fundraising Administration Volunteer

Responsible to: Community Engagement & Giving Co-Ordinator (at the event) and the Volunteer Coordinator

Time commitment requested: 6-8 hours a month

Location: Various location in the County

Main purpose:

The role of the Cornwall Mind volunteer is to contribute towards the smooth running of the Fundraising and Community Engagement function.

Key responsibilities:

  • Posting fundraising material
  • Assisting with mailing campaigns
  • Sending thank you letters/emails for donations/support
  • Contacting businesses to seek donations of auction and raffle prizes and organising their delivery
  • Maintaining and updating supporter and donor databases
  • Helping to organise fundraising events and campaigns
  • Identifying potential donors

Administration.

  • To abide by all company policies and procedures and within legal frameworks e.g. safeguarding, privacy, data protection.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information.

Miscellaneous.

  • Carry out other tasks consistent with the general remit of the post.
  • Engage with any learning and development relevant to the role as appropriate.
  • Conduct in line with Cornwall Mind’s Volunteer Policy

Fundraising Admin Volunteer Role Description

 

Lived Experience Trustee for Cornwall Mind

We’re looking for a volunteer Trustee who has lived experience of mental ill-health to join our friendly and passionate Board. Your insights will help shape our decisions, ensuring we continue to provide the best support for our community.

Our Trustees play a vital role in making sure that Cornwall Mind achieves its core purpose.

  • They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity.
  • They ensure that the charity has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision.
  • Just as importantly, they support the Chief Executive Officer to enable Cornwall Mind to grow and thrive.

What will you do as a Trustee?

  • Help guide Cornwall Mind’s purpose and goals, using your personal experience to inform our work.
  • Help review and approve plans, budgets, and policies, making sure everything runs smoothly.
  • Board members have a collective responsibility. This means that trustees always act as a group and not as individuals.

What are we looking for?
We’re looking for someone who:

  • Has lived experience of mental ill-health.
  • Brings enthusiasm, commitment, and fresh ideas to the role.
  • Cares about fairness, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Is willing to learn, contribute, and work as part of a team.
  • Cares about Cornwall Mind’s mission and values.

What’s involved?

  • Six Board meetings a year (held in person in Bodmin or online via Teams).
  • One Annual Strategy Day.
  • Occasional working groups.
  • This is a voluntary role, but expenses will be reimbursed.

You don’t need previous experience as a Trustee – we’ll provide training and support to help you succeed.

Trustee Secretary

We’re looking for a volunteer Trustee Secretary to join our dynamic Board.

Our Trustees play a vital role in making sure that Cornwall Mind achieves its core purpose. They oversee the overall management and administration of the charity. They also ensure that the charity has a clear strategy and that our work and goals are in line with our vision. Just as importantly, they support the Chief Executive Officer to enable Cornwall Mind to grow and thrive.

What are we looking for ?

We’re a strong and welcoming team who are looking for someone to join our Board as a Trustee who has skills to take the minutes of our meetings and undertake some general administrative tasks.  We’re seeking an individual with energy, enthusiasm and commitment to the role who will broaden the diversity of thinking on our Board.

Time commitment

We hold six Board meetings annually and this role requires additional occasional support to the Chair.

Wellbeing Group Volunteers

Falmouth Allotment (no gardening experience needed)

Responsible to: The Volunteer Coordinator

Time commitment requested: 3 hours a week

Location: Falmouth

Main purpose:

The role of the Cornwall Mind volunteer is to contribute towards the smooth running of the wellbeing groups and services, support staff to facilitate the sessions and to support participants.

Key responsibilities:

  • Help the Recovery Supporter facilitate the regular wellbeing sessions.
  • Provide support and encouragement to members to participate in the session when needed.
  • Help to ensure that all activities carried out by members are completed safely.
  • Help staff record, monitor and evaluate group attendance and participate in the debrief, reporting any concerns.
  • Keep up to date with local opportunities and support services.
  • Provide support and encouragement to members to access progression opportunities within Cornwall Mind and the wider community.
  • To research and identify opportunities for training and professional development.
  • Any other duties as agreed by the Volunteer Coordinator.
