Mental Health and Wellbeing Worker
Hours of Work: 37.5 Per Week

Base: Bodmin/Outreach Across Cornwall
Salary: £28,172 per year FTE
About the role
This role forms part of a partnership project between Cornwall Mind and Newquay Foodbank, providing mental health casework support to individuals at risk of homelessness.
The partnership aims to:
- Improve access to mental health support for people experiencing Serious Mental Illness (SMI)
- Provide practical and emotional support to individuals referred through Newquay Foodbank
- Reduce the risk of homelessness by addressing underlying mental health challenges
- Provide early intervention and crisis prevention support
Support will be delivered primarily through referrals from Newquay Foodbank staff or volunteers.
Support may include:
- Mental health and wellbeing action plan design
- One-to-one casework support
- Signposting and referrals to appropriate services
- Advocacy with housing, benefits, or support agencies
- Crisis prevention and early intervention
Role and Responsibilities
The Mental Health and Wellbeing Worker will provide formalised emotional and practical support to service users to help them regain control over their lives and progress through their own unique recovery journey. The post holder will work alongside individuals experiencing mental health challenges, supporting them to identify goals, build confidence, and take positive steps towards improved wellbeing, independence, and social inclusion.
The role focuses on person-centred, recovery-focused support, helping people to develop coping strategies, access community opportunities, and engage in meaningful activities such as recovery programmes, volunteering, education, training, or involvement in their local community.
The post holder will deliver one-to-one support across a range of locations, including community venues, partner organisations and service users’ homes. The role may involve lone working and requires the ability to work independently while maintaining professional boundaries and safeguarding responsibilities.
The post holder will work in partnership with other professionals, agencies, and services to ensure coordinated support, while maintaining accurate records and working in line with organisational policies, safeguarding procedures, and relevant legislation.
