The Five Ways to Wellbeing is a set of evidence-based public mental health messages, developed by New Economics Foundation, aimed at improving the mental health of the public.
We offer a free, 6 week, programme, based around the Five Ways to Wellbeing – connect, keep learning, give, take notice and be active.
Our programmes are face to face but we also offer them online.
You will learn about each of the Five Ways, and how you can incorporate them into everyday life. It’s a friendly, no pressure group, with plenty of time for chatting over a cuppa too!
Making small changes to your lifestyle can help to build your resilience so that you are better prepared to deal with everyday life, as well as difficult situations. This can help you to stay well and feel good about yourself. It’s about finding something that works for you in your day-to-day life.
Our programmes also provide social contact, opportunities for friendship, and access to peer and professional support.
We run our programmes in various locations across Cornwall. Email us to find out where your nearest programme is taking place. info@cornwallmind.org
I cannot stress enough how much the course helped me regain control of my life. It put all aspects of my unhappiness into perspective and helped me reassess what I wanted to enable me to be happy.
Our wellbeing services are based around the Five Ways To Wellbeing.
Evidence suggests there are 5 steps we can all take to improve our mental health. We try to incorporate these Five Ways To Wellbeing when planning and developing our services.
The following steps have been researched and developed by the New Economics Foundation.
Connect
There is strong evidence that indicates that feeling close to, and valued by, other people is a fundamental human need and one that contributes to functioning well in the world. Connect with your family, friends, the people around you. Building these connections will support and enrich you every day.
Be active
Regular physical activity is associated with lower rates of depression and anxiety across all age groups. Exercising makes you feel good. Step outside, take a walk, find an activity that you enjoy and make it part of your life.
Take notice
Reminding yourself to ‘take notice’ can strengthen and broaden awareness. Be curious, savour the moment. Be aware of the world around you and what you are feeling.
Learn
Continued learning through life enhances self-esteem and encourages social interaction and a more active life. Try something new, learning new things will increase confidence as well as being fun.
Give
Individuals who report a greater interest in helping others are more likely to rate themselves as happy. Do something nice for a friend or stranger, smile, thank someone, volunteer your time. Look out as well as in.
